MTX Contracts Choose BCS for Hospital Doors – Project Update

BCS were excited to receive photographs of a newly-completed project in which more than 40 of our bespoke doors and doorsets were used. New Cross Hospital, located in Wolverhampton, is now benefiting from a modern extension to its busy A&E department and, in the words of a spokesperson from the hospital’s management staff, it looks fantastic…well done MTX!. We proudly share these images with you here.

MTX Contracts are a leading engineering and construction company whose focus is on healthcare-based projects. By consistently promoting the use of MMCs (Modern Methods of Construction) and purchasing materials from highly-renowned companies such as BCS, MTX Contracts have successfully built a hugely-impressive reputation for consistent quality and reliability.

Built originally in 1900 as an imposing workhouse, New Cross Hospital opened its doors in 1970. Since then, various additions have been made, including the UK’s first purpose-built centre for specialist heart and lung treatment. With over 700 beds and a staff of more than 5000, New Cross Hospital is the biggest teaching hospital in the West Midlands.

More than 40 bespoke doors were manufactured for the extension project, each built to the impeccable standards for which BCS are known. Our severe-duty particleboard core was faced with laminate and high-impact PVC protection sheets before PVC edge-guards were added.

Vision panels were included in the doors, each was glazed using clear fire rated glass, laminated for extra strength and ease-of-maintenance. Each panel was securely beaded using contrasting beech hardwood cloaking beads utilising our innovative flush-bead system which will help to prevent damage and extend service life.

Before being carefully conveyed to site, the hospital doors were secured in pre-primed, hardwood frames using class 13 satin stainless steel hinges, complete with architraves to facilitate installation.

It was fantastic to receive news that this project has been completed and we would like to congratulate MTX Contracts on the professional job they carried out using bespoke doors from BCS.

Stepping Hill Hospital Set Opens New Catering Facility

Bespoke Complete services are currently in the process of supplying the doorsets being used in a brand new, state-of-the-art catering facility at a hospital in Stockport. Stepping Hill Hospital, which covers an area with a population of around 350,000 people, will benefit greatly from the new catering block, upon which work is quickly progressing.

Stepping Hill Hospital first opened its doors in 1905 and has been in constant growth and development since then; the hospital is rated highly on national scales for many of its department and also runs one of the biggest orthopaedic clinics in the UK. Stepping Hill was one of the first ten hospitals to be accredited with Foundation Trust status and now employs almost 6,000 staff across the various sectors. The maternity department, which saw the birth of the England (Under 21s) footballer Tom Ince, is one of the most highly-regarded in the country.

As such a large hospital with so many patients, Stepping Hill have decided to invest in the new catering block in order to provide a safer, more efficient and modernised catering facility. This involves choosing doorsets that are of impeccable quality, yet can still be obtained at a price to fit in with the strict budgeting conditions of the establishment. Bespoke Complete Services were the natural choice to provide these doorsets, our combination of high quality and low price being unmatched anywhere else.

Each door, pre-hung in a solid hardwood frame to facilitate installation,  is manufactured using our severe-duty rated core and is faced with an attractive HPL laminate finish to complement the PVC components. The frames are being supplied as a slit-frame/wraparound detail combination and have been completely encapsulated in high-impact 2 mm PVC.

As with all projects we are involved with, we have created bespoke doorsets that are absolutely suited to the job and have custom specifications; in this instance, as the doors are to be used in a hospital, we have worked directly with the Infection Control Team at Stockport NHS Trust to produce surfaces that are easily cleaned and designed to avoid the buildup of bacteria. The exceptionally-durable finish of the bespoke doors means that they will easily stand up to the regular, heavy cleaning they will be subjected to as part of standard hospital infection control regimes.

We look forward to seeing the opening of the new catering block; make sure you are subscribed to our newsletter to catch the update!

Chosen by professional establishments all over the UK to provide bespoke doorsets to a wide range of structures, BCS continue to combine superlative quality with competitive pricing. Call us today on 01254 777142 or email to discuss your bespoke requirements.

The Royal Preston Hospital – New Doorsets Ready to be Delivered

The Bespoke Complete Services team has been working hard to complete the manufacture of several doorsets to be used within a new unit at the Royal Preston Hospital. All of the doors are now completed and are ready delivered to the site, where they will be expertly and professionally installed by specialist building contractor DG Builders.

The Royal Preston Hospital is itself a relatively new site which was designed to bring together the city’s somewhat disparate array of medical services. Many of the units were transferred from Sharoe Green Hospital with the last service, Neurology Rehabilitation, relocating to the Preston site in late 2013. Royal Preston Hospital now comprises a vast and comprehensive array of state-of-the-art services and technologies including dedicated oncology and dialysis clinics, a selection of modern scanners and a world-leading maternity unit. The new unit, in remembrance of Royal Preston Hospital’s predecessor, is named Sharoe Green.

More than 30 pre-hung (on class 13 s/s hinges) doors were supplied to this extensive project. Each was built to impeccable standards with our severe-duty solid particleboard core, faced with quality American ask veneer and finished with a double coat of protective UV lacquer to offer unmatched resistance to damage. To increase safety for staff and patients, the doors were further coated with an anti-microbial finish of professional healthcare standard.

Vision panels were included in the doors and these were glazed using Pyroshield FR30-rated wired glass, laminated for extra strength and ease-of-maintenance. The panels were beaded, with matching hardwood cloaking beads, using our innovative flush-bead system that prevents damage to the doors and offers an extended service life.

As a publicly-funded body, Royal Preston Hospital sought to balance the need for superlative quality with a restricted budgetary allowance. We were proud to offer the best, most-competitive rate for our quality doorsets and delivery to the site was included in our final attractive quote.

We look forward to receiving updates as the installation of our doorsets at the Royal Preston Hospital progresses – please check back soon or subscribe to our newsletter in order to keep up-to-date with all the latest news and info from Bespoke Complete Services.

An Essential Extension – Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Highly-regarded construction company MTX Contracts Ltd have recently completed a large-scale extension project. The extension has been built at the Casualty Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn and is set to greatly enhance patients’ experience and go a long way towards allowing the trust to meet national A&E waiting-time targets.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital lies just outside central Kings Lynn and its catchment area covers some 1,500 square kilometres across three counties. This area is home to around 250,000 people and, with over 2400 staff, the hospital is the largest employer in the town. A full range of medical services is provided by Queen Elizabeth Hospital and it features a number of specialist units such as the renowned Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

Working in close partnership with the Kings Lynn NHS Trust and project managers Aecom, MTX Contracts installed a full modular extension to the A&E department of the hospital. The unit now has four brand new treatment and observation areas along with added office space on the floor above. The official order for the work was received by MTX on November 15th last year and the work was finished soon before the scheduled completion date of March 10th, a total of just 14 weeks with the exclusion of the Christmas break.

The project presented many challenges, particularly caused by the fact that the A&E department remained fully operational during the work. As the family-run MTX Contracts have such a broad scope of experience, however, these challenges were easily overcome by the talented team of contractors.

Part of the specification involved the installation of brand new doors and doorsets that would easily meet and exceed the heavy-duty demands placed upon them in such a busy environment. MTX Contracts chose to source these essential doors from Bespoke Complete Services, based on our impressive reputation for providing quality materials at a competitive price.

MTX Contracts chose to use severe-duty solid particleboard doors which are tested to fully adhere to the specifications set out in BS DD171. Faced with HPL Laminate (from our extensive Formica range) in an attractive shade of maple, the doors feature lipping on all four edges, exposed in high-impact grey PVC. Each door is mounted in a strong, sturdy and durable frame formed from solid Canadian Maple that has been fully lacquered and factory-finished.

Several of the doors used in the new extension feature both standard and privacy vision panels. For these, Bespoke Complete Services used our innovative beading system and unique sleek glaze; as there are no protruding beads, the doors will be far more resistant to damage from the heavy foot traffic and wheelchairs/trolleys which constantly pass through. The flush-fitting system also ensures that bacteria is kept to a minimum, in line with NHS Trust infection control regulations. All of the doors used on the project were fitted with fire discs which fully and clearly detail each door’s fire-rated performance and the dates of the installation.

MTX Contracts were extremely satisfied with the quality of our doorsets and the completed extension is now fully operational. We are proud to have supplied our quality products to such an important project.

The Future of Medicine – Salford Royal

Bespoke Complete Services are currently involved with a large-scale renovation project at Salford Royal hospital. Working closely with a professional architectural practice and building company, we are providing several protection strategies for the doors and doorsets of the important building, providing extended service life and cost-effectiveness.

Salford Royal, formerly known as Hope Hospital, is a teaching hospital that is managed by the NHS Foundation Trust and has strong links with the Universities of both Manchester and Salford. The site has hosted a hospital since 1882 and is one of just 19 hospitals to be rated as ‘excellent’ in its use of resources and service quality out of the 394 inspected by the Healthcare Commission. As well as caring for thousands of patients, the hospital also boasts a number of leading research facilities including the 3T MRI scanner and one of the biggest clinical dermatology centres in the UK.

Bespoke Complete Services have worked with Day Architectural design, a RIBA chartered architectural practice whose directors have more than 100 years of combined experience, to develop a number of protection strategy options for the many doors in Salford Royal. Manchester-based building contractors City Build are also involved with the project.

Hospital doors are subject to extremely frequent usage and can suffer particular wear from the impacts of hospital trolleys, wheelchairs and other equipment. To help negate these damaging effects, we are installing aluminium edge guards on pairs of doors that will absorb the regular impacts and prevent the need for costly, regular repairs.

Commonly, hockey stick beading is used to secure vision panels in doors; the problem with these beads is that they are protruding and can be torn away in areas of heavy traffic, particularly where beds are constantly being moved. Bespoke Complete Services have developed a glazing bead which finishes flush with the door’s surface, completely eliminating the risk of vision panels dislodging from their secure positions. Door frames are also being offered protection by square steel sections on the edge at a similar level, further prolonging the life of the doors and doorsets.

As this work continues, further renovation is in the planning stages. Other parts of the hospital will be receiving similar renovation to their doors and we will also be supplying fully post-formed PVC doorsets to the hospital’s state-of-the-art operating theatres later in the year. We look forward to continuing this project and will continue to share updates.

Montagu Hospital

Bespoke are proud to have recently completed the manufacture and supply of a brand new purpose built reception counter along with some 40+ high pressure laminate doorsets for the rehabilitation unit at Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, South Yorks.

The new unit is the first of its kind in the UK, providing intensive therapeutic, medical and nursing care seven days a week in an environment specially designed to promote recovery.

The design and build reception desk and counter at the main reception entrance to the hospital were produced using AR Plus high gloss laminate.  The AR+ offers a hassle-free, durable high class finish with twice the surface performance of standard gloss laminates plus the AR+ technology delivers a gloss surface that is highly resistant to scuffs & mar abrasions, extending the gloss laminate cycle life, an ideal solution for this type of ‘heavy-traffic’ environment. The doorsets for the project were produced on a severe duty solid particleboard core, faced with high pressure laminate F7961 Fog Grey to exacting FD30 & FD60 specifications with the additional benefits of high acoustic performance up to 35db Rw.

Again a fast track project for us with all doorsets and the reception desk all completed on time and to budget in under 3 weeks.
